Using Hypnosis to Stop Smoking - Your Choices

The act of stopping smoking is difficult, and when you consider the cost in health and financial terms, almost anything that makes it easier to achieve has to be worth it.

On the other hand, there are plenty of ruthless people willing to take advantage of people especially if they are desperate, so it's important to make sure that any therapeutic approach you think about spending money on has a good track record.

Is using hypnosis to stop smoking worthwhile?

Though I am not a smoker, if I was, then there are only two therapeutic approaches I would think of spending money on, and those are NLP (covered on PlanetNLP.com in the article Stop Smoking with NLP) and Hypnosis.

Hypnosis has been used to help people stop smoking for many years, and has a good success rate.

There are also many available recordings to help you quit smoking, and as it's a very common issue, all hypnotherapists are likely to have dealt with the issue on a regular basis so will have a go idea of how to start working with you and should have come across any specific issues that you may have.

Should I use Hypnosis or Self Hypnosis to stop smoking?

As a smoker, when it comes to using hypnosis to stop smoking there are really three choices - pay for a hypnotherapist to help you over a series of sessions, invest in some self-hypnosis recordings, or learn to use self-hypnosis yourself.

Using a hypnotherapist is by far the most expensive option, but if you find a good hypnotherapist then your chances of success are higher than using either of the other two options.

One of the advantages of hiring a hypnotherapist is that you are likely to be more highly motivated to quit. No one wants to keep giving someone money and there is also the embarrassment factor if you have to keep returning (though in reality it should be the hypnotherapist who is seen as failing rather than the client).

Also occasionally there may be a specific reason why you have struggled to quit that a hypnotherapist could uncover and deal with whereas a recording will simply assume what issues should be covered.
