Fear of Flying Phobia (Aviophobia) - Cure your Phobia of Flying

Where do Fear of Flying Phobias come from?

Flying is an apprehensive time for most people simply because they don't do it very often and their is a perception of danger. Also due to the issue of turbulence, there is the element of movement which can occur without any warning or any visual clue as to what happened. People also have an inbuilt fear of falling which means that those occasions where the plane drops a little due to air pressure changes outside can easily generate a phobic response.

Before trying to fix a fear of flying phobia, it's important to recognize the difference between a phobia and a fear or simple apprehension. Read the article NLP Phobia Cure - how do I use NLP to cure a Phobia? for information on how to tell the difference.

What's the easiest way to cure Fear of Flying Phobias?

I have noticed that some airlines provide their own day long sessions. Having seen a television documentary following one of these days I believe that while their intentions may be valid, their methods are rubbish.

On the TV documentary, the first part of the day was spent with pilots explaining why flying was safe - as if that was the issue!

The definition of a phobia is an IRRATIONAL fear.

People know that flying is relatively safe so getting the 'bloke who flies the plane' to tell the passengers that everything will be fine is hardly going to help is it?

Later in the day the paying clients (a room full of scared flyers) were all loaded into a plane together and then the plane took a short flight to show them that flying was fine.

Now if I was on a plane with every seat around me filled with a shaking wreak who's adrenaline was through the roof, I don't think it would be long before I was scared too - a ridiculous and counter productive activity if ever there was one.

Personally I would steer clear of such events.

The easiest and quickest way to remove a phobia is the NLP Fast Phobia Cure which you can either use yourself or get someone to talk you through. You can also walk another person through it should you be hoping to help someone else with their phobia.

Having helped many people deal with their phobia of flying I believe the hardest part of dealing with flying phobias is recognizing which element of the flying experience is causing the phobic reaction - and therefore knowing how to perform the phobia cure.

All phobias have a visual element that contains fast movement and when you're thinking about sitting in a metal tube with no reference to the outside world it's difficult to work out what process you are performing in your mind that is causing the phobia.

In one case I remember the client created the fast movement in their head by imagining themselves falling forward down the plane which implied the movement to the plane and generated a felling of falling themselves. Another possibility is to visualize the plane falling or some people may visualize the results of a crash.

To ensure that the cure is effective then make sure you spent time on this part of the process and identify the actual 'movie' element so you are fixing the right problem rather than trying to fix something that sounds like it should be the phobia.
